Hourglass will be offering Belly Dance Drills Classes in January.  These classes will be on a drop in basis.  The discount will be offered January through April only.  If you are new to belly dance you may wonder…what are drills classes???  Good question!!  During a drills class students gather for an hour to practice, repeat and drill  level appropriate belly dance moves.  Not only are these classes great exercise, they also train the dancer to better execute the moves necessary for the dance.  Drills classes will help you present a polished, tight performance.  At Hourglass this time of year, we are heavily into choreography and that doesn’t leave much time for  practicing and polishing hip circles, figure eights, snake arms, undulations, shimmies, traveling, layering, etc. etc. etc!  Also, most of us are ready to shed a few pounds after holiday festivities and drills class provides for a sweaty, one hour workout!  If you are a newcomer to belly dance and feel like you need to do some catch up work in order to keep up with the others in your beginner class – drills classes are the answer!
Belly Dance Classes for First Time Students!!!

Wednesdays – 6:15 to 7:15pm  This class is for Social Living, Daily Deals and first time students.  Students will learn basic posture, beginner moves and a simple belly dance choreography!

Hourglass Bellydance Grand Opening!

The Hourglass Bellydance Studio will hold its grand opening from 5 to 10:00pm, Friday, September 30. 2011.  The studio is conveniently located at 6500 South Padre Island Drive in the Padre Palms Plaza across from Century 16 Theaters.  The public is invited to come and enjoy drinks, appetizers, and free belly dance lessons.  Lessons will run from 5 to 6:00 and 6 to 7:00pm and a drawing for a variety of door prizes will follow. Guests will be able to view performances from last year’s Hourglass Bellydance Recital and meet some of the friendly folks at Hourglass Bellydance.

The studio is richly decorated with warm colors, new laminate wood flooring and a plush, draped, semi-private waiting area where dancers may peruse a collection of belly dance journals and literature.  Hourglass provides a variety of coined hip scarves and veils for in class use as well as an assortment of belly dance apparel for purchase.

Women come to Hourglass classes to learn the art of belly dance, but also there are those who are seeking out a new way to exercise. During an hour belly dance workout class, dancers can burn approximately 500 calories while practicing a dance that illuminates the beauty of the female form.  Belly dance helps students tone up, slim down, increase flexibility and see an enhanced sense of self.

Hourglass classes are non-threatening, great fun and for women and girls of all ages. The curriculum includes instruction for the beginner through advanced student as well as finger cymbal, veil, and belly dance workout classes.  At Hourglass Bellydance you will find women from all walks of life getting together to talk, to laugh, and to enjoy the dance!
